Product Description
'Irv the Swerve' set his intentions for the 1999 season as early as the opening round, as he took the race win around the Albert Park semi-street circuit.
This set of racewear is an incredibly rare artifact, which celebrate the success of Eddie Irvine's career in Formula 1.
After a retirement at the San Marino GP in round 3, Irvine needed a good race at the Monaco Grand Prix.
Starting in a disappointing 4th place, after a difficult qualifying session, Eddie certainly had his work cut out for himself.
As the lights went out, the Ferrari driver reacteed quickly, and flew past McLaren's David Coulthard around the outside of turn one.
Schumacher, who lined up 2nd, also pulled off a very similar move on the pole-sitter, Mika Hakkinen. Now in 3rd Irvine's target was set on the McLaren of Mika Hakkinen.
The streets of Monte-Carlo are tight and twisty and make overtaking incredibly difficult, something that Eddie Irvine was finding as he harassed the back of his Finnish rival.
The Ferrari was clearly faster than the McLaren, but Irvine just couldn't find a way through. As the pair approached a group of backmarkers, Ross Brawn (Ferrari's Technical Director) made the intelligent decision to stop Eddie early, instead of fighting through the traffic.
The risk paid off! As Mika pitted several laps later, Irvine had managed to pull off a fantastic under-cut and take 2nd place off the reigning champion's hands!
Eddie Irvine held his place for the rest of the race, taking home an important 2nd place for the championship.
As the season progressed, it became clear that Irvine and his Monaco sparring partner were the two championship protagonists.
Hakkinen and Irvine spent the entire year trading lead of the championship all the way up to the final round of the season. Unfortunately for Irvine, Hakkinen won the final round, and the championship.
Nevertheless the 1999 season was the greatest of Irvine's career and showed him to be one of the top drivers of the late 1990's.
The set includes his Race Suit, Nomex Top, Nomex Trousers, Nomex Socks, Balaclava his helmet. Each and every item was worn during the 1999 Monaco GP by Eddie Irvine, on his way to a hard-fought second place.
The suit itself is made by Sabelt and features the unmistakeable Ferrari logo, as well as the name and chevron of the team's main sponsor. Across the waist strap is Irvine's name as well as his politically neutral green Shamrock.
The helmet, also signed and time stamped by Irvine, features his normal bright red base colour and a green horizontal stripe. The helmet also features several sponsor logos, as well as a large prancing horse on the top. The back of the helmet also has the green shamrock.
The best way to celebrate the career of this incredibly unique & iconic driver, would be with a collection of items like this, 25 years on from his greatest ever season.
What makes this collection even better is that Eddie Irvine signed the Suit and Helmet back in 1999. With his signature in big and bold pen across the chest of the iconic Ferrari race suit, and on the visor of his helmet. A 25-year-old, signed, and nearly complete collection is like gold dust.
You cannot afford to miss out on an opportunity to own such a unique Formula One artifact.
